Freecycle 2

A few months ago we successfully disposed of a drop leaf table and 4 chairs, 60 roof tiles and 35 paving slabs by using Freecycle.  We were amazed by the response, particularly for the paving slabs, so just recently we’ve posted a 30+ year old Black & Decker drill (in perfect working order) a 10 year old Dyson (needs attention) and his and her rollerblades (complete with his and her wrist, elbow and knee pads).  There has already been some interesting requests for the Dyson and the drill.  I think that experienced Freecyclers realise that a bit of humour helps their request to stand out from the multitide of replies.

Whilst posting these items I spotted a brand new computer keyboard being offered at a location about a mile from our house.  We put in a straight request for it without either a sad or humourous tale and Matthew said we could have it.  I phoned him to find out where he lived and 10 minutes later I was on his doorstep with my bike (a truly carbon neutral transaction!).  We had spotted that this guy had posted before so I asked him what he had disposed of in the past, he replied; computers and associated hardware, cameras, a bike and housebricks.  He’d also acquired a few things through Freecycle though admitted that he’d been suspended by the Moderators for a month after putting out a wanted request for a girlfriend.  He got quite a few responses, but all from blokes offering their partners.
