Sinclair A-bike

Yesterday I saw a Sinclair A-bike being ridden for the first time.
There’s no doubting that they are a marvellous piece of engineering but I had wondered how practical such a machine would be, suspecting that it like Sir Clive’s famous C5 it was really was nothing more than a toy.
I chatted to the bike’s owner and he collapsed the A-bike in just a few second whilst talking to me.  He rides from Salford Crescent to the Quays on it which is about 1.5 miles and although it can’t compare to a conventional bike for speed or comfort he views it as just a quicker alternative to walking, twice as quick in his opinion.  I was suspicious of the tiny wheels which I thought would make it impractical to ride on the road and sure enough the guy rides all that way on pavements rather than the road – naughty boy!
