Alex is starting to find more and more ways to amuse himself so I thought I’d compare some of his current favourite things with Maria’s.
Crawling vs Dancing
Alex crawled for the first time yesterday. He’s been pushing himself backwards around the house for a while but yesterday there was no mistaking his intent as he made 6 consecutive forward movements. Maria wasn’t as quick to start crawling but it’s probably her influence (and the need to get out of her way) that has aided Alex’s progress. Maria prefers to dance; she’s got good rhythm and amongst her current favourite tunes are Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl and You Can Get It If You Really Want by Desmond Dekker.
Swings vs See-saws
Maria loves swings and has done since she was Alex’s age. The higher and faster the better and the single swing at the lower playground in Heaton Park is probably the best swing in the whole wide world. Alex is partial to a swing but much prefers the see-saw which always brings a big grin to his face.
Fans vs Wheels
Maria has a passion for fans that is bordering on an obsession, which to be honest we have encouraged by all too frequent visits to B & Q. The whole B & Q experience can be quite stressful and so a trip to the lighting department helps placate her. She remembers which other shops, houses and public buildings have fans in them and when they are switched on never fails to exclaim that they go round and round and round. Alex has developed a love of wheels and can become deeply enthralled by any upturned vehicle.
Cake vs Yoghurt
Maria’s love of cake is legendary and she’d sell her own Grandparents for a slice although Nana might be safe as Maria also recognises my mum’s red cake tin. Alex seems to be developing a sweet tooth as well as the sight of any yoghurt pot now makes him whimper and pant.
