What a wonderful day we had yesterday!
My youngest Cousin Liz was married over at Clitheroe and she had asked Maria to be a flower girl. Maria loved the beautiful chocolate brown dress she wore and was able to walk down the aisle with the bridal procession under the guidance of her 4 year old cousin Jack.
I can find days like these quite stressful as Maria’s mood can change quickly and when there are lots of people fussing over her it’s understandable that she might not be in the best of form. However, she remained calm and composed (and well fed with raisins and biscuits). We had got ourselves well organised beforehand and fortunately Alex’s feeding patterns fell nicely into the day’s schedule with a feed just before the service and before the meal, which meant that the two of us could entertain, distract and feed Maria.
Maria was well behaved through a beautiful service; A youth choir sang an enchanting song "One hand, one heart" which brought me to tears and Auntie Jean read a wonderful extract from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. The reception was held at Higher Trapp Country House which provided a beautiful and comfortable setting. Alison, Jason & Abigail were able to stay for the whole day which was an unexpected bonus so I had a first cuddle of my Niece, who was also impeccably behaved throughout the day. Alex was also passed around the family as if a game of baby pass the parcel was being played. Some good pictures of Alex flirting with a friend of Liz & Adam’s who had left her 14 week old Sam with his Grandparents for the first time.
Maria loved the dancefloor and she & Jack were the first ones upon it. She liked the lights in particular and seems to have some natural rhythm as she clapped and skipped across the polished floor.
I’m sure Liz & Adam enjoyed the day as much as we did, they both seemed at ease, everything ran smoothly and an unexpected 5-0 win for his beloved Rochdale meant that for Adam it was unquestionably the best day of his life!
