Maria seems to have a talent for numbers. She’s been able to count to 10 for about a month now although her number 7 is a bit dodgy. She recognises each of the numbers from 1 to 10, can count to 6 unaided and tonight replied to her first ‘How many?’ question with a correct answer (the number of balls on the kitchen floor was only 2). Her pronunciation of 4 and 5 has improved greatly as 5 sounded more like ‘bives’ a few weeks ago but she does seem reluctant to say 7 and after 6 often jumps to 8 or 9.
Another extra special talent Maria has is texting. Tonight we received a rather confused call from Alan the painter who had received 2 text messages Catriona’s mobile. We worked out that Maria had navigated to the message inbox and retrieved a text received earlier in the week from her Great Aunt Jean inviting her out to Heaton Park. She then, for reasons best known to herself, forwarded it to Alan. She sent it twice for good measure but then again I do that too because after sending a text Nokias annoyingly leave the message open on the screen, so it’s an easy mistake to make.
