As we suspected, not much happened this week on the conversion whilst Dean the Foreman was on holiday; that suited us, as much of the remaining work is interelated and it’s not our job to project plan it. Although the construction work has been completed quickly, we were made aware of Deans shortcomings as a project planner when they downed tools after just 1.5 days because a watertank was in the way. Fortunately a heating engineer, John, was available to start replacing our boiler (and remove the redundant tank) on the Friday and worked right through the weekend to enable Dean and the team to continue on the following Monday.
This week the plastering and plumbing was supposed to be completed as well as the electrics. The appointed plasterer was admitted to hospital the day before he was due to start and to his credit found a replacement. The replacement, with his 8 year old son in tow, was only able to do a few hour before stopping due to the heat and we haven’t seen him since. A plumber was due last week but didn’t turn up and today another plumber did arrive but was gone within a couple of hours because it didn’t look straightforward and he needed Dean to make some modifications. Plumbers are notoriously hard to pin down because they are in such demand and they know it too.
The electrics were finished this week and we hope that the bedroom plastering can be completed next week so that we can start decorating in the evenings. More photos added to the loft conversion slideshow.
