Not much progress at Holmes Towers today. Alan the painter was only allowed half a day’s work before the rain set in for the afternoon.
His progress has also been hampered by the lack of assistance from his part-time little helper who fits in painting between training sessions with local semi-pro outfit Radcliffe Borough. Simon, defensive midfielder, 25 is back to back fan’s player of the year (maybe he’s got a big family). Mind you Alan is no stranger to celebrity as an ex-boyfriend of Sam Fox just as she was becoming a ‘big’ star.
Alan seems to have done quite well business-wise out of the prolonged presence of the scaffolding: the neighbours either side have enquired after his services and we’ve recommended him to a couple of friends.
It looks like the structure will remain into next week which could delay phase 2 of the back garden reconstruction. I was tricked into the whole project by my wife and mother-in-law who spent a sunny lunchtime removing a small strip of turf from one end of the lawn. This made the back garden look ‘stupid’ and forced me to turn it into a proper Groundforce work in progress scene.
Phase 1: the complete removal of turf and decking of the terrace was completed ahead of schedule, within budget and without any trips to casualty. I almost enjoyed doing it, especially the Wednesday when I got completely sunburnt and necked far too much Oranjeboom. Photos of phase 1 posted.
Let’s hope for better weather tomorrow.
